Job Role: Investment Associate – Finance

 

Role Description:

This job provides a unique opportunity to be a part of the life science venture capital team which invests in companies working on healthy aging. The Investment Associate will assist in sourcing and evaluation of potential investments, perform in-depth due diligence, support portfolio companies, and assist Investment Partners. In addition, this role will be involved in extensive financing modeling and valuation analysis of portfolio companies. The Investment Associate will track the healthy aging startups and present them to the Investment Partners. In addition, Associate will monitor the broader biopharma space as well as transactions which are relevant to the Fund’s portfolio.

 

Job Responsibilities:

Strategy:

  • Contribute to the implementation of the investment strategy in line with the Hevolution’s short, medium, and long-term objectives.

Operational:

  • Source, screen and assess investment opportunities and prepare opportunity summaries to help guide decision-making.
  • Support the investment team with competitive analysis, landscape overviews, and diligence reports on selected investment opportunities in healthy aging space and other companies/areas as directed.
  • Collect financial and investment information about companies using various reports, economic forecasts, trading volumes, financial periodicals, securities manuals, company financial statements and other financial reports and publications.
  • Conduct due diligence studies and valuations of the identified potential deals and equity investments and accordingly interact with key functional groups such as commercial, legal, finance, tax, etc.
  • Build and improve financial models including investment returns models, portfolio valuation exercises, NPVs, cash flows, income, and balance sheet to evaluate selected deals and equity investments consistent with models used in the organization.
  • Create pharma landscape overviews to support BD activity for the portfolio companies as directed.
  • Analyze gathered information to develop an understanding on current and long-term trends in investment risks and economic influences pertinent to investments.
  • Support the execution of investment deals from initiation through closing and post-closing monitoring.
  • Monitor the performance of overall investment portfolio, compare the performance with targets and take corrective action.
  • Develop, implement, and use tools for managing and analyzing Hevolution investment opportunities and portfolio.
  • Ensure the timely execution of investment-related accounting activities as per the International Financial Reporting Standards in order to minimize potential errors and associated risks.

Market Research and Analysis:

  • Monitor market's developments for key participants/ players and fiscal/ commercial updates in order to support the process of scouting for investments and investment analysis.
  • Collect information relating to political, commercial, and corporate data by monitoring field activities, obtaining/ following-up on scouting information etc. that will contribute to defining appropriate opportunities.

Continuous Improvement:

  • Support in identifying opportunities for continuous improvement of systems, processes and practices taking into account ‘international leading practice’, improvement of business processes, cost reduction and productivity improvement.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures:

  • Comply with all applicable departmental policies, processes, procedures, and instructions to subordinates and monitor their adherence so that work is carried out in a controlled manner.

Reports:

  • Ensure that all reports of the are prepared timely and accurately and meet Hevolution’s requirements, policies, and standards.

 

Qualifications & Experience

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in life sciences

Additional Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in business administration, Finance, Accounting, Investment or similar
  • PhD and/or MD degree with postdoctoral and/or medical residency training is a plus but not required.

Experience:

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience with an emphasis of investment
  • Experience in venture capital, management consulting, investment banking, equity research or business development in life sciences.
  • Professional working proficiency in Arabic a plus

Location:

  • This position will be based in Boston, MA. Some travel required but will generally not exceed 30%
